PALUMBO TO AHEARN: REJECT ANTI-POLICE  WORKING FAMILIES PARTY LINE

Working Families Party has made defunding and eliminating police a top priority

Assemblyman Anthony Palumbo, candidate for state Senate in the 1st District, today called on his opponent, Laura Ahearn, to stand in solidarity with local law enforcement and prosecutors by rejecting the endorsement of the Working Families Party. Last month, the Working Families Party made defunding and eliminating local police a cornerstone of its 2020 campaign agenda.

On her campaign website, Democrat candidate Laura Ahearn cites her 25 years of experience as a victims’ rights advocate. By choosing to accept the endorsement of the Working Families Party, Ahearn would be signing off on a radical anti-police agenda that would leave communities and crime victims more vulnerable than ever.

“Anyone who truly believes in keeping our communities safe knows that ‘defunding the police’ is insane and dangerous,” Palumbo said. “We’ve seen a disturbing rise in violence throughout the state because of the defund movement. In making it part of its legislative agenda, the Working Families Party and its candidates are advocating for an agenda that has and will result in an uptick in violent crime and make local communities less safe.

“Laura Ahearn has already publicly come out in support of stripping protections away from law enforcement,” said Palumbo.  “Is her next move to accept the Working Families Line and join the defund police movement?  If so, Long Island families can’t trust Laura Ahern to support our police and stand with residents for safer communities.”
