Statement from SCGOP Chairman Jesse Garcia on Partisan Politics Taught at Suffolk Community College; Abuse of Academic Power
“Suffolk County is using your tax dollars to pay someone to campaign for a political candidate. This is wrong on so many levels. At best, it is an abuse of academic power by a professor of the students who are at her mercy for a grade. At worst it is a public servant blatantly violating the County Ethics law prohibiting the campaigning or coercing others to participate in a political campaign.
“This was not discussed during a political science class. This was a diatribe during the first day of class where students are introduced to their professors.
“I am happy to learn from Suffolk GOP Legislative Caucus Leader Tom Cilmi that President Lou Petrizzo is taking this matter seriously and conducting an examination into this blatant violation of the ethics code.
“If what we all heard and saw with our own eyes in this social media post is accurate, this adjunct needs to be disciplined — possibly even fired -— immediately, and brought up on ethics charges by the county.
This is straight from the Far left Democratic playbook: create a fictional “boogie man” threat of voter suppression while actively practicing intimidation and veiled threats of repercussions against those who are powerless.
“That’s the very definition of workplace and academic harassment.
“Our state elected officials need to make political coercion like this illegal on all SUNY, CUNY and community college campuses. This is not an exercising of first amendment rights — this is weaponization of a classroom to those who hold different beliefs.”
